MJB&A is developing a white paper on the health, safety, and environmental impacts of carbon dioxide
capture technologies. The white paper will be used as part of a stakeholder partnership
organized by the World Resources Institute (WRI) that seeks to build consensus guidelines for carbon
dioxide capture and storage (CCS) projects. WRI has brought together a diverse group of over
75 stakeholder organizations interested in CCS; including businesses, governments, non-governmental
organizations, and academics.
In December, WRI will host the first of a series of stakeholder meetings to build consensus on the
guidelines to ensure that CCS projects are done safely and effectively. The workshops are
modeled on WRI's successful effort to reach consensus on a GHG measurement protocol. The
guidelines will cover all six stages of the CCS project lifecycle: capture, transport, site selection,
operation, closure, and long-term care.
This project draws on MJB&A's expertise in the area of environmental implications of advanced coal
technology. Additional information on the project is available through the WRI project
