Brian Jones, a senior consultant in Climate Services at M.J. Bradley & Associates, will be moderating
a roundtable discussion at the Carbon Market Insights Americas 2007 Point Carbon Conference in New York
City October 29-31. The roundtable is entitled North American Offset Supply and includes the
perspectives of a broker, a project developer and the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX). The
roundtable is slated to address the following questions - Will offset supply meet demand? Are
the RGGI standards too strict? Will federal standards trump regional protocols?
Brian is the project manager of the U.S. GHG Offset Acquisition Initiative, which released a request for
proposals (RFP) in February 2007 for more than 10 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions
sourced from projects within the United States. The participants in this Initiative are five
power companies: Conectiv Energy Supply, Inc.; Dominion Resources Services, Inc.; Entergy Corporation;
NRG Energy, Inc.; and Public Service Enterprise Group. The participants have teamed with The
Climate Trust and M. J. Bradley & Associates, Inc. to leverage their respective expertise in the
offset market and climate change policy.
Phase 2 GHG offset project proposals were received in late August from the final pool of project
applicants. MJB&A is working with The Climate Trust to evaluate these GHG offset project
opportunities with a goal of making final GHG offset purchase recommendations to the participating
companies in early November.
Additional details on the RFP are available on The Climate Trust's website at http://www.climatetrust.org/solicitations_2007_RFP.php
